Join the Science of Mind Archives for an unforgettable pilgrimage through the breathtaking autumn landscapes of New England, where the vibrant colors of fall provide a magnificent backdrop to the birthplace of the New Thought movement. Together with Rev. Kathy Mastroianni and Rev. Dr. Petra Weldes, trace and dive deeply into the evolution of ideas that continue to inspire millions around the world today.

Beginning in the mountains of western Maine, where Ernest Holmes spent his formative years, we’ll explore how the forests, villages, and spiritual influences of his youth helped shape the founder of Science of Mind. From there we’ll travel to the coastal town of Belfast, home of Phineas Parkhurst Quimby, whose revolutionary understanding of mind, healing, and consciousness laid the foundation for modern metaphysical thought.
Our journey continues into historic Massachusetts, where the wisdom of Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau awakened a new vision of the Divine within every person. Finally, we’ll conclude along the rocky shores of Gloucester as we explore the profound contributions of Mary Baker Eddy and Emma Curtis Hopkins—two extraordinary women whose spiritual insights helped shape Ernest Holmes and the Science of Mind philosophy.
Each day combines inspiring discussions, sacred sites, quiet reflection, beautiful scenery, and meaningful fellowship. Morning meditations, Spiritual Mind Treatments, and guided conversations invite you not only to learn this remarkable history, but to deepen your own spiritual practice and discover how these timeless teachings continue to live through you today.

Today’s focus turns to Phineas Parkhurst Quimby, widely regarded as the Father of New Thought. During our morning gathering, we’ll explore Quimby’s revolutionary understanding of consciousness, healing, belief, and the relationship between mind and experience. His insights became the foundation upon which many New Thought traditions—including Science of Mind—would later flourish. He was a nineteeth-centry mystic, healer, humanitarian, and scientist who initiated a contemporary philosophy and called it, “The Science of Health and Happiness.” His insights into the relationship between beliefs held in mind and the experience were well advanced for his time.
